Samsung USB DVD Writer,
Why did I buy it? I bought a (high quality) Thinkpad X100e which, like all netbooks, is too small to accommodate an internal drive. USB ROMs are much cheaper, but to create a Windows 7 system backup DVD, you need a writer, obviously.
A good quality little gadget. Does what it says on the box! Only downside is that it’s a bit noisy – but that’s not for long. Delivery was within timescale quoted, so no problems there.

A neat, highly-portable external CD/DVD writer (plus Nero 9 Essentials),
The last time I bought an external DVD writer it was longer and wider than a housebrick and of a similar weight. This little marvel couldn’t be more different.
At just under 16x14x2cm approx, it lives up to its ‘slimline’ name and is a sleek, compact little unit that fulfills its promises. To use it, simply plug it into the USB port (one port or two for extra power) using the Y-shaped USB lead provided and it loads immediately using Windows XP/Vista/7. It is supplied with Nero 9 Essentials but can be used with any suite.
Although the PC specs list minimum 1.6GHz processor, mine works fine with the 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z520 installed in my Acer One 751 netbook.
Build quality is good but the casing is wholly plastic and quite brittle so it probably wouldn’t survive being dropped or knocked about too much. It would be a good idea to allocate a pocket within a netbook/laptop carry bag such as this Belkin Bag for Netbooks or similar if you’re planning to use it on the move.

After hard time getting another drive to work with Eee Pc 1005 had to look for replacement. And the samsung poped in sight. Being reasonably priced and looking nice as a bonus tipped the scales and being made by Samsung was a nice bonus.
Strate away have to say it does the job nicely working with only one usb cable as oposed to the old drive i had , even when the netbook is not pluged in the mains.
So fingers crossed it will be here to stay.
