Verizon Thunderbolt Smartphone Features
For most people who are looking to purchase a smartphone they want to see blazing download speed as well as good network coverage. The new Verizon Thunderbolt places well in these two categories making it a serious competitor in the ever expanding field of smartphones.
Download Speed
When it is possible to access a mobile hotspot connection you could download a 5.1 MB file in just 20 seconds and upload a 16.4 MB photo album in merely 47 seconds. For the CNN and ESPN mobile sites you could load them in 3.6 and 4 seconds respectively to the phone itself. The full CNET site was loaded in a blazing 12 seconds. One caveat is that using the mobile hotspot feature will cause an excessive draw down on the battery. Recently, however, Verizon has begun promoting smartphone updates which will disable the phones’ innate ability to use the hotspot function for free so they can begin charging a $20 fee for this enhancement. As for apps, they downloaded and installed almost instantly. Videos from YouTube were loaded in two seconds or less and playback was not interrupted.
Media services from TuneWiki and Bithop can be streamed without a hitch.
Coverage
As of right now, July 2011, there are 39 markets which are covered by Verizon’s 4G network plus there are more than 60 major airports that also provide service. In the next year the company is planning to provide coverage across the country and will continue to extend this over the next three years. The goal is to have 285 million customers by the end of 2013.
Summary
Verizon has really stepped out in front of the competion with the introduction of the HTC Thunderbolt phone which now takes its place as the fastest phone with the most powerful features. The 4G speeds are mind-boggling and leave the competition in the dust. You’ll find that browsing and streaming on the Thunderbolt phone brings this activity to a whole new level of experience. All this power does not come without a cost which is a high demand on the battery life. But if you want speed you’re at the right place, just remember to have a backup battery or an extended battery on hand.
