A Phone Recorder Helped Me Preserve My Best Friendships
A phone recorder helped me to keep the friendships that really mattered. During my final year of school I worked with three girls from Brazil. We were essentially inseparable. We worked at a tanning salon. The executive became extraordinarily upset with all four of us one day because he had some really dear telephone calls on the bill, naturally made to Brazil. So he got a phone recorder on the line.
I told him that I’d have nobody to call in Brazil. Being from Ohio I was off the hook, but my friends also denied making the calls. I told them that it was equivalent to taking which was a horrible thing to do to someone who is trying to manage a business. All three girls still denied doing it. The strange thing was that we customarily worked together so one of us would be able to tell if the other was on the phone.
He decided to get a phone call recorder. He did not tell anybody that he did it. The recording was very inconspicuous and none of us had any notion that it had been connected up. One evening he brought us into his office and asserted he had something he wanted us to listen to. He played the recording so we could listen to it. To his surprise and ours as well we could not tell him which one of us it was and he did not recognize the voice either.
He played the call another time but this time he paid close attention to the time stamp on the phone recorder. The phone call had taken place overnite when the salon was closed. He figured out the cleaning lady was making the calls and not my girls. The recording gave complete proof of what had happened. I dont think I would have been able to keep a comradeship with the girls if I thought they were liars and burglars. The phone recorder helped the boss get to the truth and helped me keep my girlfriends.
